Training

QPTV's Training program gives Queens residents the power to create media and bring ideas to life.

Workshops

FIELD PRODUCTION (EFP):

(Location shooting with portable video equipment) Trainees will learn how to create programs using portable equipment in the field. Workshop includes hands-on training in audio/video recording, lighting and remote camera operations.

EDITING:

Students will learn non-linear editing on a PC platform using Adobe Premiere Software. Instruction includes intensive hands-on training on how to build a program using music, graphics and special effects.

STUDIO PRODUCTION WORKSHOP:

Trainees will learn every aspect of producing a program in QPTV’s three camera production studio. Students will get hands-on experience in multiple microphone set-ups, switching using a special effects generator and lighting. Students will also learn how to produce a live call-in show where viewers can participate in their program. Each trainee will participate in a group project during the tenth session, and will be required to produce an individual project, which is necessary for certification, within in six months.

Studio B Training

QPTV is pleased to announce the commencement of STUDIO B training. Studio B training is open to all QPTV Studio Certified Producers.

The training will consist of one 3 hour session with a QPTV instructor. Studio “A” Certification is a prerequisite for taking the Studio B Workshop. (New Studio Trainees will receive Studio B Training as part of their 11 week training cycle.) The maximum number of trainees in each workshop will be five. We encourage producers to team up with one to four members of their regular crew and come in together for Studio B training.

There will be a modest materials fee of twenty ($20.00) for taking the workshop. Registration is on a first come first serve basis.

Trainees are required to attend all sessions from beginning to end, and must demonstrate their knowledge, skills and an understanding of QPTV’s Rules & Procedures before a certificate of completion can be issued. Trainees must be proficient in the use of QPTV’s equipment.

FAQs

Do I need training to get a show on QPTV?

No. Many producers own their own equipment and provide QPTV with completed shows that we cablecast. Non-Queens residents must have a local sponsor.

What happens after training?

Trainees who successfully complete one of QPTV's workshops are entitled to use the equipment in the particular area of certification (e.g. Editing, Studio or EFP).

Is there a fee for training?

QPTV collects a small fee for each workshop. QPTV's equipment, studio and channel time are provided to the community free of charge.

How often is training given & how long does it take?

Training is offered twice a year during the Spring & Fall. Training lasts ten weeks. Classes meet once a week. Each session is three hours long.

Who is eligible to take the training?

Training is provided to all bona-fide residents of Queens who are 18 years of age or older. Applicants must show proof of Queens residency and/or be a staff member of a 501 (c)3 organization based in Queens.
