Patients, staff, families, and supporters were honored at a groundbreaking ceremony held at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. Their combined efforts turned their dream of a new patient pavilion and updated medical equipment into reality. The ceremony featured an invocation by Mother Miriam and Deacon Michael Maroutsis followed by several highly influential and encouraging speakers such as Stephen Brent Wells, Chairman of St. Mary’s Board of Directors; Jeffrey Frerichs, President and CEO of St. Mary’s; Samuel Karetsky, Co-Chairman of “Building Hope, Restoring Lives”; Toby Ann Stavisky, State Senator; Helen Marshall, Queens Borough President; Mark Weprin, New York City Councilmember; and Dan Halloran, New York City Councilmember. Entertainment was provided by the Half Hollow Hills High School East Concert Choir; recording artist Jill Gioia; and a special performance by the St. Mary’s kids who dedicated “You Are My Sunshine” to their St. Mary’s caretakers. A video called “Dreams Come True” was presented by producer Jennifer Maharajh. After the ceremony, volunteers including QPTV staff members Louie “KR ONE” Gasparro, Tonimarie Gasparro, and Marguerite Rosmarin-Verrone helped with a celebration entitled “Dreams Come True in New York”. Everyone, including former Queens Borough President Claire Schulman, enjoyed authentic New York City food vendors, a petting zoo, graffiti art, and much more. The entire event was hosted by Chris Wragge, anchor CBS News and The Early Show Saturday and new anchor of The Early Show. Tune in to QPTV to join Roslyn Nieves and experience this wonderful heartwarming ceremony made possible by everyone at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.
