Internship Overview

Upon being accepted to QPTV’s for-credit only Internship Program it is the student’s responsibility to go through their university/college’s internship coordinator. We require that the students internship coordinator fax over a document indicating that they have gone through the cooperative department and will register for QPTV’s for-credit only Internship Program.

All interns are expected to be prompt and to dress in a respectful manner appropriate to
an office and studio environment.

INTERNS ARE REQUIRED TO WORK A MINIMUM OF FIFTEEN HOURS PER WEEK FOR A MINIMUM OF TWELVE WEEKS.

• Basic troubleshooting and maintenance of network, PCs/workstations, servers, software and printers
• Updating database entries and assisting in database design, creation and maintenance
• Updating web content, assisting in web design and development, web video, social media and social networking
• Transmission from TX room, Tape Library – logging
• Dubbing of Tapes, shipping of Tapes
• Handling phone requests from providers
• Labeling of new or recycled videocassette carriers
• Familiarizing and inventory of video equipment room
• Updating access producers projects
• Assisting in shoots, Dubbing tapes, Recycling tapes
• Video Editing
• Pre and Post Production assignments
• Computer work
• Attending studio workshops
• Assisting in shooting Public Service Announcements
• Phone work, character Generator Tutor
• Various Administrative/Clerical duties
• Faxing/Xeroxing/telephone
• Front desk duties (Meet and Greet)
• Prepare: packages for shipments, information packets
• Attend local fairs and events
• Draft/type correspondence, Word processing, including mail merging, labels, etc.

What is QPTV?

QPTV (Queens Public Communications Corporation) is a not-for-profit private corporation serving the residents of Queens. QPTV manages four community television channels specifically for Queens, under the Franchise Agreement between the City of New York and the Cable Operators in the Borough of Queens.

QPTV cablecasts the most diverse programming to the most diverse community in the world reaching over 440,000 subscribers 24 hours a day, everyday on channels 34, 35, 56, 57 on Time Warner Cable and on 82, 83, 84, and 85 on RCN and channels 34, 35, 36, 37 with Community Bulletin Board on channels 33 & 38 on Verizon FiOS.
