Afghan Journalists Visit QPTV

On September 22, 2011 a group of journalists from Afghanistan took a tour of QPTV’s Studio. All of the journalists are part of the International Visitor Leadership Program which is falls under the Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Previous participants in this program include President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and President Nicolas Sarkozy of France.

The purpose of their visit is to learn about community media and to discover how they may use local television to organize the disparate communities and tribes of Afghanistan. There are many disenfranchised voices in Afghanistan and our visiting journalists are of the belief that community television is one of the tools that can be used to unite those voices.

Promote Your Program: How to Use New and "Old" Media to Push Your Show

Why should anyone watch my show?
What is the message I'm trying to get across to viewers?
What am I trying to say about my program?

These are questions you should ask yourself when thinking about how to get more people to take a look at what you've worked so long and hard on.

I'm pretty certain you would like your audience to increase as much as possible. Whatever your reason or motivation might be, public access television allows you to have a voice that that has the potential to reach many. Unfortunately, reaching out to the masses doesn't happen by itself or overnight.

You must promote.

QPTV Certified Access Producer Bircan Ünver sits down for a studio taping with His Excellency Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan, Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations.

H.E. Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan will be featured in the episodes LMTV - Ambassador Profile - I: Millennium Development Goals and Turkey and On The Fourth UN The Least Developed Countries Conference.

The Light Millennium TV airs monthly every third Monday at 6:30PM on channel 57/85/37 and Wednesday at 10:30AM on 57/85/37.

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall & Hunters Point South

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall gets a closer look at plan unveiled, Wednesday, February 9th by Mayor Michael Bloomberg for New York City's largest new affordable housing complex in more than 30 years - Hunters Point South. A development team, consisting of Phipps Houses, Related Companies and Monadnock Construction will build the residential portion of the first phase of the waterfront complex, which includes two mixed use buildings with more than 900 housing units and approximately 20,000 square feet of new retail space.

Get A Show

QPTV's program schedule consists of Series and Specials.
All program applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are not a guarantee for a timeslot.

Series Programs are scheduled through QPTV's Lottery Process.
Specials are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis in any available time slots in our schedule.
We will accept two (2) tapes per submission at one (1) submission per month.
Specials are scheduled at least a month in advance.
QPTV accepts programs on DVCAM format only.
Tapes must be properly labeled.
Half-hour programs may not exceed 28:30 and hour programs may not exceed 58:30.

Get Trained

Applications are accepted on a first-come first served basis to Queens Residents. A limited number of applications will be available two times per year. QPTV offers Training in Field Production, Editing and Studio Production.

Watch QPTV

You must be a subscriber of Time Warner Cable, RCN or Verizon FiOS in Queens.
QPTV is only available and exclusively cablecasts in Queens.
QPTV airs on channels 34, 35, 56, and 57 on Time Warner Cable.
QPTV airs on channels 82, 83, 84, and 85 on RCN.
QPTV airs on channels 34, 35, 36, and 37 on Verizon FiOS.
Verizon FiOS subscribers can tune into channels 33 and 38 for QPTV's Bulletin Board public service announcements.

Become An Intern

QPTV accepts students for Production Internships and Information Technology (IT) Internships. We will only consider college students that can receive school credit. We require an attendance of approximately 15 hours per week, for approximately 12 weeks. Interns receive a $300.00 stipend after they complete the minimum 180-hour prerequisite. All applicants should have a recommendation from their respective internship coordinator. Please have your internship coordinator forward resumes to communitydevelopment@qptv.org

Queens Public Television is located in Downtown Flushing @ 41-61 Kissena Blvd, Suite 2077 in the Flushing Plaza Building between Sanford and Barclay Avenues.
All programming and trafficking transactions including tape drop-offs, pick-ups, and paperwork issues are handled at QPTV's Storefront facility in Flushing Plaza on Kissena Boulevard (between Dunkin Donuts and the Fine Jewelry Store).
Hours are from Monday - Friday 10 AM to 5:30 PM.

You can travel to QPTV by Subway, Bus and LIRR.

What is QPTV?

QPTV (Queens Public Communications Corporation) is a not-for-profit private corporation serving the residents of Queens. QPTV manages four community television channels specifically for Queens, under the Franchise Agreement between the City of New York and the Cable Operators in the Borough of Queens.

QPTV cablecasts the most diverse programming to the most diverse community in the world reaching over 440,000 subscribers 24 hours a day, everyday on channels 34, 35, 56, 57 on Time Warner Cable and on 82, 83, 84, and 85 on RCN and channels 34, 35, 36, 37 with Community Bulletin Board on channels 33 & 38 on Verizon FiOS.
